In the workshop
Here, only sensitiveness matters.
Here hands and materials start to speak to eachother.
A sculpture's birth

I often work without a model, on the base of an emotion. I hollow-build the sculpture using the Korean coil technique. Fingers model clay like a skin.

The lines are taut and the attitude refined. While the material slowly loses its moisture, the clay envelope is lightened.

The kiln heats up to 980°C; the clay becomes ceramics and retains the memory of each imprint.

The elastomer mould precisely captures the shape for the wax proof that will be lost in the melting process.

Molten metal fills the refractory mould instead of wax; the face is reborn, black then shiny after polishing.

Acids, pigments and fire give bronze its nuances. Each patina is unique.

Pigments, binders and oxidants colour the original terracotta.
